Fabulously Festive Charity Event Success
What a fabulously festive evening we all had at the annual KWMCC & Cedarwood School Christmas Shopping Evening.
The venue looked amazing again this year with the help of Let's Party Venue Decor and the beautiful displays by all the stall holders on the night.
Visitors were able to browse and buy from over 30 exhibitors offering some lovely festive gifts, whilst Hungry Tums provided lots of tasty treats. Therapists were kept busy with their massage and mini pamper treatments and Pip Duffy kept everyone in the mood with his wonderful singing.
Event Organisers Jo (KWMCC) & Fiona (Cedarwood PFC) said:

Your support has helped to raise £1748.49 for the Community Centre and the Parents & Friends Committee of Cedarwood Primary School” which is fantastic.

Kesgrave Running Club Wins Award
Congratulations to Kesgrave Cruisers for winning the 'Club of the Year Award' such a huge achievement in such a short space of time.
This all inclusive running club meet at Kesgrave Community Centre, on a Tuesday evening from 7.00pm - 8.00pm. Every ability is catered for from first time beginners to dedicated competitors, it's a great opportunity for people to meet and run in a fun and safe environment.
Em Mortimer who started the running club said:
"I started the club as I was going to be training on my own and I thought I would open up my session to others to join in to help them improve. I got diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome early last year so wasn’t able to run myself and so in March I did my first coaching course and since then it really has given me the confidence to push the club and to help others. Last year the club would have a maximum of 30 runners completing a warm up session, which involves interval work and a cool down. I regularly have over 100 now on a Tuesday night at kesgrave community centre and last Tuesday there was 140.
I am on cloud nine still and I am so made up to have won this award. All I want is for adults and kids to enjoy their running and for it to be fun, friendly and safe. This is certainly the theme at kesgrave kruisers. Every week I have someone thanking me for a personal best, a good session, saying that they have made so many friends at kruisers and that they are loving their running again since coming along! It makes me feel emotional sometimes but every single one of my runners is fantastic and the support and attitudes of those who are Kesgrave Kruisers is like nothing I have experienced before anywhere else. I wouldn’t have been able to do all of this though without my amazing committee behind me! "
Our Festive Thanks!
Did someone mention Christmas!
We decided to thank our Christmas Shopping event sponsors by making them wear their Christmas hats and pose for a photo!! well why not, it is nearly Christmas after all.

New Cricket Facilities for Kesgrave
Congratulations to Kesgrave Cricket Club on their 25th anniversary and for their amazing fund-raising efforts to provide new practice facilities for their club.
The club celebrated the opening of their newly built outdoor practice facility on Sunday 1st July with Graham Napier, ex Essex and England cricketer, now with RHS Sport, visiting the club to formally ‘cut the ribbon’.
Graham then held a Q & A session encouraging all the young players who attended the opening, to practice hard but always remember to still enjoy playing the game, this was followed by an interclub T20 match and BBQ to celebrate the club’s 25th anniversary.
Photography by Kesgrave Cricket Club
Post event statement from the cricket club;
The club at Kesgrave had raised £40,000 over the past three years in order to fund the new practice facility through a combination of grants, donations and fund-raising events. Club Chairman, Richard Bradley, said “A major contribution of funds was made by local charity SPARK (Sport and Recreation in Kesgrave) to whom we are very grateful”. He added “The club is always looking to recruit new coaches and players, both junior and adult and we particularly hope these new practice nets will generate enthusiasm for the game from school aged youngsters locally”. Details on cricket coaching for young people from age 8 upwards is available on the club website at kesgrave.play-cricket.com
The club is currently enjoying their most successful period ever. After winning the league title for the last two years, the first XI are now top of Division 3 of the Two Counties league and the second XI are top of Division 9 East.
KWMCC Networking Success
Celebrations for ‘The Centre of Networking’
Kesgrave Community centre (KWMCC) celebrated the success of their monthly networking events this month. ‘The Centre of Networking’ organised and hosted by KWMCC and sponsored by Bates Wells & Braithwaite Solicitors, Ipswich, opened its doors last September to provide an informal and fun monthly networking event for local businesses to attend and get connected. Thanks to the support of the event sponsors and those who regularly attend the networking group, they have also been able to support local charity, St Elizabeth Hospice by raising over £600 to date.
Set in twelve acres of land just outside Ipswich KWMCC has a choice of function rooms, free parking and is easily accessible, making it an ideal location for these type of events. The group set up a year ago by KWMCC celebrated their first anniversary at last week’s monthly event, along with representatives from the hospice, sponsors Bates Wells & Braithwaite, guest speaker Glenn Savill from Aston Shaw Accounting and networking attendees from local businesses.
Photography BY KWMCC left to right Debbie Austin (St Elizabeth Hospice), Christopher Mason (Bates Wells & Braithwaite), Chris Chenery (Chenery Creative LTD) and Nigel Poorly (Poorly PC)
Jo Barker, Business & Events Co-ordinator at KWMCC, said: “We are so pleased with how popular our networking events have become in our first year, our aim has always been to provide a friendly and relaxed environment for local business people to meet and network on a regular basis. The fact that we can also support our chosen charity, St Elizabeth Hospice through these events is fantastic and this has only been made possible by sponsors Bates Wells & Braithwaite Solicitors in Ipswich. Through their support and the people who attend our networking we are able to donate everything we raise from entry fees, to fun activity donations. The hospice is a great charity, we know how vital fundraising is for them to be able to continue their hard work within the community.”
Jazmin Peach, Corporate Fundraiser for St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We’re really grateful to all those involved with Kesgrave Community Centre’s Networking and thank everyone who has attended one of their sessions over the last year and donated to the charity. 80% of the care we deliver happens away from the hospice, in our local community, and the money raised here could help us pay for seven home visits by one of our community nurses, helping those living with a progressive or terminal illness in their own homes.”
New Play Area Open
A new play area aimed for children under the age of 11 has now been officially opened by Kesgrave Town Council, located on the corner of the KWMCC sports field. It is hoped that the new play equipment will be used by those with young children on their way to and from school, whilst parents can relax in the seating area provided.
KWMCC have worked closely with Kesgrave Town Council to get the new play area in place, which has been funded by SPARK, (Sport, Amenities Recreation in Kesgrave) who through their finance made the project possible.
Since the opening, there have been many young families taking advantage of the good weather and the school holidays to visit the play area and try out the new equipment, we look forward to seeing it fully utilised over the coming months.

New Image for KWMCC
You may of noticed that KWMCC has recently changed their logo.
Both the staff and board of trustees at the centre felt that the KWMCC logo had become dated and it was time for a new design, Aislinn and Tracy at Polstead Press in Stowmarket were happy to step up to the challenge, but little did they know quite what a challenge this would be!
Having worked with Tracy on a few other design and print projects over the past few years Polstead Press were the obvious choice for us.
So how important is a company's logo?
A company's logo is very important, identity is visually expressed through it's logo, along with the company's name and it is one of the main things that makes a business memorable.
KWMCC worked closely with Aislinn at Polstead Press to achieve a design that delivered the intended message, with such an array of facilities on offer, from sport to conference the logo needed to achieve the importance of the centre being a place for everyone in the community to use for all kinds of celebrations, activities and events whether it be for private or business use.
We think that with the help of Polstead Press we are starting to achieve our aim of establishing the KWMCC brand as 'The Venue for all Occasions and Events'.

Kesgrave Fun Day Competition Winner
Thank you to everyone that visited the KWMCC stand at the Kesgrave Fun Day on Saturday 9th June, we hope that you all had a good time and took advantage of the free face painting and ballon modelling that KWMCC provided at the event.
The sun shone which attracted more than 1,000 visitors throughout the day, well done to the Kesgrave Town Council for organising such a great community event.
KWMCC hirers Bounce and Zumba Ipswich were performing some high energy fitness routines along with some entertaining displays from the Torwood Wheelers.
The event was also a great opportunity to launch the new KWMCC logo design along with a newly designed banner created by Polstead Press in Stowmarket, thank you to them for all their support over the last couple of months.
Special thanks to Samuel from VIP Balloons for all his hard work on the day entertaining the children and to our resident yoga teacher Michelle Mellor who helped out on the KWMCC stand.
Congratulations to Sophie Rose aged 8, from Grange Farm, Kesgrave. Sophie visited the KWMCC stand and managed to achieve the closest guess as to how many sweets were in the jar, much to her brothers dismay whose guess was just one less closer than Sophie's!!
Sophie recently visited the centre with her dad to receive her prize - the 'huge' jar of sweets and an Amazon Voucher from Richard Baird (KWMCC Chair of the board of trustees) and Punna Athwall (KWMCC trustee).
Well done Sophie and we hope that you enjoy the sweets and spending your voucher.

Kesgrave Family Fun Weekend
In celebration of HM the Queen's 90th Birthday Saturday 11th - Sunday 12th June at the Millenium Sports Ground
50 Years of Community Life
Kesgrave Community Centre has been the centre of the Kesgrave community dating back to the end of the Second World War, when it was decided that the £200 victory fund would be used to create a living memorial with a new community centre. Although the original hall was demolished when the new Grange Farm development was put forward, a new one was then built taking advantage of more land to allow sports activities and in more recent years a conference centre, sports centre and sports pavilion have all been added to the site.
As the centre continued to develop over the years it has become a social hub for many, offering activities and events for all ages to enjoy. The Centre is available for private functions, corporate and business events, weddings, christenings, funerals and private parties. The excellent facilities, coupled with a safe and secure environment, makes the centre an ideal choice of venue.
The grounds and outside space, including 2 large free car parks, are home to a variety of clubs, associations and organisations, and is regularly used for fundraising and charity events.
To celebrate our 50th anniversary as a charitable trust a special event is being organised in July where staff and trustees will celebrate the occasion alongside their regular hirers.
As a registered charity, all the money received is used to enhance and develop services and facilities to the Community.
